Congratulations Joan Downey!

Hearty congratulations are in order for our volunteer Archivist Joan Downey on the successful completion (Honours Graduate) of a two year Records and Information Management Course from Mohawk College on May 3, 2016! Burlington Best Award

Burlington’s Best 2015 Heritage Award was won by our very own member Winnifred Stewart! A Heritage Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to the preservation of Burlington’s heritage and has volunteered their time in an effort to support the preservation of Burlington’s heritage. Winnifred was chosen as the 2015 winner for being a leader and supporter of heritage and culture in Burlington for more than 40 years.This included working with Joseph Brant Museum archives and the Friends of Ireland House and raising awareness and funds to ensure it became a museum for the citizens of Burlington. Congratulations Winnifred!

Congratulations from the Prime Minister

Letter from The Rt. Hon. Justin P.J. Trudeau P.C., M.P. Prime Minister of Canada marking the 25th anniversary of the Ireland House Museum in Burlington. Excerpt from this letter states

‘I would like to commend the Burlington Historical Society and its devoted supporters for helping to create a sense of community and pride by celebrating Canada’s cultural heritage. In these rapidly changing times, it is important to have an appreciation of the people, places and events that have shaped the way we live today.’

Dr. Galbraith from RBG

Letter from the Royal Botanical Gardens regarding the honorarium given to our March 14th speaker Dr. David Galbraith. Excerpt from this letter states,

“The honorarium received will be designated to the Rock Garden Capital Campaign and will be matched 100% by Mr David Braley and Mrs Nancy Gordon.”

Jane’s Walk

Alan Harrington took part in the May Jane’s Walk in downtown Burlington. Alan was the tour guide on this walk around our downtown area. Note Alan’s new T-shirt advertising our Society.
