Important moments in Burlington’s history
Until the late 1950s if Burlingtonians needed to be in the hospital they went (or were taken) to Hamilton. The building of our own hospital was an important event in Burlington.

This 16 mm film was included in the recent donation of information and items from the Joseph Brant Hospital. We had it digitized so it could be shared.
It is 6.40 minutes long with no sound. The first part is the sod turning on 26 May 1959, in colour. The second part, in black and white – the laying of the cornerstone in 1959.
The Burlington Junior Band is prominent, as with all important public events. We see Mayor John A. Lockhart speaking. A.S. Nicholson was the sod-turner and one of the speakers.
Enjoy this piece of history.
